PERFIL ACADÉMICO
Soy Profesor Titular de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Talca. Mi formación como tecnólogo médico y doctor en Biotecnología ha orientado mi interés por comprender cómo los materiales pueden contribuir al transporte y la liberación de agentes terapéuticos.
Investigo biomateriales y nanotransportadores con aplicaciones en cáncer, inflamación, dolor crónico y hemostasia. Me interesa conectar el diseño de formulaciones con su comportamiento biológico: cómo interactúan con la sangre, cómo ingresan a las células y qué respuesta producen.
Dirijo el Centro de Nanomedicina, Diagnóstico y Desarrollo de Fármacos (ND3) y el Laboratorio de Nanomedicina y Liberación Dirigida. Soy investigador titular de CEDENNA. Junto a la investigación, desarrollo docencia de pregrado y postgrado, formación de investigadores y actividades de divulgación científica.
INTERNATIONAL TRAJECTORY
He earned his degree in Medical Technology from the University of Talca and a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Santiago de Chile. From 2013 to 2015, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Biomaterials, Brigham and Women’s Hospital–Harvard Medical School, under the mentorship of Prof. Omid Farokhzad, and was a Research Affiliate at the Langer Laboratory, David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Mi investigación busca comprender y mejorar la interacción entre nanotransportadores y sistemas biológicos. Integra formulación, caracterización, modelamiento molecular y farmacología experimental.

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP
Alongside his scientific work, Cristian Vilos has developed sustained experience in academic management and institution building. Since 2022, he has directed ND3 and currently serves as Senior Researcher (Investigador Titular) at CEDENNA. His leadership focuses on interdisciplinary research, scientific infrastructure, postgraduate education, national and international networks, and the translation of knowledge toward relevant biomedical challenges.
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Talca, November 2025–August 2026; Acting Dean, May–November 2025. Director of ND3 since 2022. Member of the university Appointments and Promotions Committee, 2023–2025.
Associate Editor, Frontiers in Drug Delivery, since 2022. International evaluator for PROCIENCIA-CONCYTEC, Peru, since 2021; project and scholarship evaluation for CONICYT/ANID. Ad hoc reviewer for journals including Biomaterials, Journal of Controlled Release, Blood and Scientific Reports.
School outreach through mobile and open laboratories, and teacher training through ND3’s EducAcción initiative. Recognized in 2025 for commitment to science communication and support for Explora Maule.
